About QASRA
Where it all began
Syed Abdul Hamid Chishty
The Quran and Sunnah Research Academy (QASRA) is built on a legacy of sincerity, truthfulness, and devotion to authentic Islamic learning. Its roots go back to our respected elder Hazrat Syed Abdul Hamid Sahab, whose life reflected humility, clarity of thought, and a pure commitment to the Quran, the Prophet's authentic Sunnah, and the noble traditions of the Ahl-e-Bait.
As the world changed and misinformation about Islam grew, Syed Ali Hamza Chishty and Syed Badrudduja Chishty recognized the need for an institution that could document, safeguard, and present Islamic teachings with academic honesty and spiritual depth. QASRA was established as a research-focused institution rather than a conventional religious centre.

Curiosity drives our work across scholarship, language, artificial intelligence, and software. We investigate questions, test ideas, and turn what we learn into resources people can use. Our foundation in Quran and Hadith research continues alongside an expanding range of scientific and technical work.
Human Language & AI
Human language sits at the centre of how knowledge is shared. Our work includes translation models, embeddings, and tools for finding meaning across large collections of text. We develop these capabilities to support reading, discovery, and applications across different subjects and languages.
Independent Thinking
Independent thinking gives us room to question familiar approaches and develop our own. We work across disciplines, choosing methods according to the problem and examining the results carefully. Clear reasoning, honest limitations, and the freedom to revise an idea remain essential to that process.
Software & Data Systems
Software turns our research into practical capabilities for individuals, developers, and organizations. With projects such as RIDA, we explore how large collections can be organized, delivered, and accessed efficiently. We build tools that can serve both a focused application and a larger company’s workflow.
Heritage & Knowledge
Heritage remains an important part of our work. Through Maktab-e-Hayat and our Quran and Hadith projects, we preserve scholarly material and make it easier to explore across languages. Libraries, searchable collections, and source references connect this continuing responsibility with our wider technical capabilities.
Technology in Practice
Technology earns its place through useful results. Our work spans applications, public APIs, AI integrations, and data tools—from location lookup and calendars to connecting research collections with modern assistants. We aim to make each product understandable, documented, and practical to adopt.

Research & analysis
Investigating a chosen topic through source material and careful analysis, including custom studies of any religious tradition.
Our translation work covers Urdu, Hindi, English, and Arabic. We also train smaller models for transliteration, where names and spelling need careful handling. The model pages explain the training data and recorded results.
Our search systems use embeddings to find passages related to a question, even when the wording differs. Separate retrieval projects cover Hadith, Quran translations, and Tafseer. They use Voyage and OpenAI embedding models with QASRA-prepared collections.

Our Legacy
From a khanqah to a research academy
